You are to go directly home after treatment

Once home take a shower or wash treated areas with mild soap or cleanser (Dove, Oil of Olay, Cetaphil, CeraVe, or Vanicream).

NO SUN exposure what so ever for 48 hours/ 2 days. This includes no walking to the mailbox, going out to the store, sitting in front of windows, etc. The Levulan can be re-activated by the smallest amount of UV exposure for 48 hours.

Be aware flourescent lights can also cause irritation after treatment with Levulan

You may start to apply moisturizer/make up immediately if desired

Be aware products containing retinol, Retin-A, Tretinoin, Vit C, or Glycolic Acid may burn/sting but does not have to be avoided

You may experience the following after your PDT treatment:

Burning/Stinging which could be severe and may last up to 24 hours

You may take extra strength Tylenol or Advil for discomfort

Redness and swelling which may last up to 4 weeks after treatment

You may use ice packs/frozen peas 10 minutes on 10 minutes off for swelling. Make sure to wrap ice packs or peas with a hand towel or paper towel prior to applying to skin surface.

Scaling/crusting which may last up to 4 weeks after your treatment

You may apply a mild moisturizer such as Cetaphil, CeraVe, or Vanicream

Either lightening of the skin (hypopigmentation) or darkening of the skin (hyperpigmentation)

Make sure to apply SUNSCREEN or wear sun protective gear diligently for a minimum of 1 month following treatment. Sunscreen should be applied 20 minutes prior to sun exposure and re-applied every 2 hours
